Prosperous Attitudes Toward Money

by Catherine Ponder – Guest Author.

Catherine Ponder is the world’s foremost author and lecture on Prosperity.
Her many books have helped and inspired millions of people worldwide.

Live Abundantly NowLive Abundantly Now! This is one of a series of special articles to empower you to live abundantly now. These will occasionally appear in your inbox. Read, save, share, archive to later inspiration. They are for the purpose of inspiring you to live the more abundant life you are here to live — and to do it now. The principles shared are the same for everything, prosperity, health, happiness, harmony, peace.

RECENTLY a friend sent me a comic postcard which read, “Rich or poor, it’s good to have money!” I’m sure most of us would agree.

All sorts of wonderful things are being written about money, and of our potential for having and enjoying more of it. It has been pointed out that more fortunes have been made since World War II than in any comparable period. Fortunes are still being made, according to the figures of the Internal Revenue Service. One writer recently declared, “you can still make a million!” Another boldly stated, “Your chances of making a million are better than you think.”

[Note: Since Catherine Ponder first wrote the above, more people have legitimately become millions and billionaires, and they keep increasing.]

As you study the lives and experiences of prosperous-minded people, you will find that they have a friendly attitude toward money. Whereas, you will discover that the more general attitude is that there’s something wrong with having money and being prosperous.

When I was the guest speaker at a club luncheon at a hospital, an executive was given a check to aid in furnishing a new wing of the hospital. In response to receiving a check to aid in the furnishing of the new wing of his hospital, this executive declared, “It isn’t the money that is so important. It is the club members’ love and interest in this new hospital wing that really counts.”

Somehow I wondered if he realized what he was really saying, because my first reaction (which I suspect was the silent reaction of a number of others) was, “If the money isn’t important, why is this man here? He is a very fine and busy executive, and I wonder if he would have come to the lunch with these ladies had they merely sent him word that they were impressed with his hospital expansion program.” Surely this man was taught as a child what many of us were erroneously taught — to dislike money.

If you listen closely to the conversations of people about you, you will discover that this is a general attitude. People often discount the importance of money, while they are working very hard to get it. They do not realize the cross-current they are setting up in their thinking, which in turn voids most of their efforts. Through such cross-up thinking about money, they are working at cross-purposes, and often they will experience a crossed-up result.

$     Money is Divine!     $

I will never forget the first time that, as a minister, I lectured on the importance of money for successful living. When I declared that money is wonderful because it is divine substance; that money is good when rightly used, a lady sitting on the front row gasped and almost fell out of her chair! When I stated, “money is divine, because money is God’s good in expression,” she almost passed out! She had come to this lecture because she was interested in having greater prosperity in her life. Yet when I mentioned money as a legitimate form of prosperity, it shocked her completely.

After the lecture, one of the members of the church board cornered me and said. “Don’t you think you put it a little too strongly about money being good because it is divine substance?” I found myself replying, “I hope I put it strongly; I surely meant to.” The board member then said, “Yes, but you shocked that lady on the front row so much that she may never come back.” My reply was, “If I shocked her, it was because she needed to have some old, erroneous ideas about money shocked out of her thinking, as we all do.”

I then pointed out that my whole purpose in teaching the spiritual and mental principles of prosperity was to help people to learn God’s good truth about prosperity being their divine heritage, so that they might be freed from failure, poverty and all the other sins of lack. I realized that sometimes the process was a shock.

At the next lecture that lady was back, sitting in a front seat. The only difference I could detect in her attitude was that she had pulled her chair up a little closer toward the lecture platform, happily awaiting further shocking truths about prosperity!

After she attended a number of lectures, she calmed down considerably in her strong attitudes regarding the pros and cons of prosperity. In due time she came to see me and confessed that, when she first began attending the prosperity lectures, her life and affairs had been in dire shape, financially and otherwise. Her husband had left her, her children seemed to have turned against her, her physician predicted that she was nearing a nervous collapse; she had a good job, but her money never seemed to go very far, and she could not get along with her fellow workers; she was even involved in a lawsuit concerning her previous job.

But week after week as she began to entertain new ideas about prosperity and successful living, her whole attitude changed, as did her way of life. Before long her husband returned; she gradually was able to establish a more harmonious relationship with her children; she did not have a nervous collapse; the lawsuit regarding her former job was quietly and amicably settled out of court; and she began to find joy and satisfaction in her work. Indeed, before long she seemed a transformed individual, and it all began the night she dared to change her thinking about money.

Most people are sensitive about their capacity to earn money. In most instances, a person’s capacity to earn money would increase if his attitudes toward money were positive and friendly. It was the late Mike Todd who has been quoted as saying, “I’ve never been poor, only broke. Being poor is a frame of mind. Being broke is a temporary situation.”

What about your attitude toward money? It might be worthwhile for you to check up on this. Sometimes, negative attitudes toward money can be rather subtle.   Most everyone can upgrade their attitude toward money realizing that it is divine substance, a wonderful medium of exchange. The more you can make money your friend, the more easily you will attract money, and all the other good things of life. Money truly is divine! When you have an abundant flow of money in your life, you are divinely happier, healthier, and more peaceful, too.

Ask For More!

By Lowell Fillmore – Guest Author, Son of Charles and Myrtle Fillmore founders of Unity School of Christianity.

Ask for MoreLive Abundantly Now!

REMEMBER that the divine supply is greater than the human demand.

Man asks too meagerly, calling for inferior things when he might just as easily call for the best, and plenty of it. The average person prays as if he felt that he might be robbing someone else if he asked for enough to supply all his needs, or as if the supply in the divine storehouse were running low.

I heard recently of a man who prayed that he might get to his mother’s bedside before she died, and his prayer was answered. He could however just as well have prayed that his mother be healed. Another man prayed that his brother be allowed to die without pain. God would have healed his brother, if he’d just known the Truth for his brother.

On a cold, snowy day a tired woman with a big bundle of groceries in her arms prayed that she might get a ride at least part of the way home. Sure enough, when she had gone two-thirds of the way a friendly neighbor picked her up in his car and took her the remaining one-third of the way. She could just as well have asked a ride all the way home.

When I was a boy I was impressed with the philosophy of an old doctor, a friend of our family. He said that he had prayed all his life for just enough to supply his daily needs, but had not asked for a bit more, and he said his prayer had been answered; he had never lacked for anything, but God would have given him more or if he had asked for more.

If you were hungry you could just as well ask for a square meal as for a crust of bread. Remember that the divine invitation is, “Ask, and you shall receive.” Jesus Christ, the great abundance Teacher, said, “Hitherto have you asked nothing in my name: ask and you shall receive, that your joy may be made full.” He also promised: “And whatsoever you shall ask in my name [nature], that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you shall ask anything in my name, that will I do.” [As a divine spiritual being, you are the Son.]

When we ask for a pittance we usually do so because we feel that there is not enough for all. This feeling shows that our faith in God’s inexhaustible abundance is weak. All things in nature have been provided lavishly. More seed is produced by plants than the soil can accommodate. Compared with the universe of stars and space our earth is so small that it is hardly a speck of dust, and compared with the size of the earth our personal needs are infinitesimal!

Surely the few extra grains of microscopic supply that we might ask for would make no difference to an infinite God Who controls the vase universe. In what way then is man’s supply limited if it is not limited by God’s will? The limitation is in man’s own capacity to receive. The very fact that he cannot ask largely proves that his capacity is limited.

Man’s capacity is limited largely by the fact that he lacks a sense of spiritual values. He thinks material things are more important than spiritual things. The power to use and enjoy material things depends upon a better understanding of spiritual things. The things of Spirit are far more valuable than the things of the physical world.

If you were to pray: “God, give me a million dollars,” you probably would not get it because you would not have faith that you would get it, and you would not have the ability to use it wisely. It would be much better to pray for wisdom, love, and understanding enough to be able to appreciate a million dollars. We need to pray for a greater capacity to live and understand life. God has already given us more than we are using. We must learn to use what we have.

God does not withhold His blessings just to hear us pray and cry for them. He has already given us all things, and He desires that we enjoy them. Our prayers should be said for the purpose of opening our own consciousness so that we may be able to see, understand, and use the omnipresent good that God has given us. Jesus said: “Seek His kingdom, and these things will be added unto you.” Instead of praying for a large sum of money in order to bring you happiness, why not pray for happiness in the first place? [Be happy as if you already have the money, and the money come more easily.]

We should never make the mistake of praying for something that belongs to another person or that will interfere with another’s liberty. To pray that Joe will do this or do that is not a large or a fair prayer. It is a little, narrow, selfish prayer. But to pray that Joe be freed to do the will of God takes all condemnation and limitation from him, leaving him free to do the will of his highest nature. This is the big prayer because it asks that Joe’s highest good be fulfilled, not just our own idea about his good.

Make your prayers definite, but do not make them inflexible. Always be ready to receive something better than the particular thing you have prayed for, and always remember that happiness, health, love, wisdom, harmony, and peace are much more to be desired than material things. In fact, when you have found the spiritual blessings you will have entered the kingdom of God in your earthly experience, and the other things, the material supplies, will be added.

When you pray, do not assume the role of a beggar but of a master. God to God unhampered by fear, worry, suspicion, or doubt. Do not question in your heart God’s ability, but rather give thanks that He is now answering your prayers. Ask largely. Give your whole self to God, and gratefully accept His riches freely.

God is your loving Father. Do not allow your selfish personal reservations to hold back your spiritual impulses, and God will not hold back anything from you.

It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you His treasure in marvelous measure! Accept this as so and live like you believe it. Gratefully claim and accept the vast good God has for you now.

40-Day Abundance Prayer

I dwell in the midst of infinite Abundance.
The Abundance of God is my infinite Source.

The River of Life never stops flowing.
It flows through me into lavish expression.
Abundance comes to me through unexpected avenues.
God works in myriad ways to bless me.
I now open my mind to receive my good.
My mind is open and I am now receiving my abundant good.
Nothing is too good to be true. No amount is withheld or limited.
Nothing is too wonderful to happen NOW.
With God as my Source, nothing amazes me.
I give freely and fearlessly into Life and Life gives back to me with lavish increase.
Blessings come in expected and unexpected ways. All channels are open and the flow of good has already begun.
I freely give my tenth to God and God gives abundantly to me.
Thank You, God for the Abundance that is mine today!
And so it is!

It is beneficial to be very still for a few minutes after you affirm the Abundance Prayer. At night peacefully go to sleep assured that God is providing for you richly and abundantly.

How to Stabilize Your Finances

Lesson 5

[private]

Prosperity Made E-Z
By Rev. John W. Adams

Lesson Five – How to Stabilize Your Finances

Prosperity Principle:  God is the Source of your supply.

To have stability in your finances, and in every phase of your life, there is only one thing you can count on, which is the anchor and foundation of true prosperity.  This stabilizing factor is accepting God as the Source of your supply.  This may seem a bit different than you have been used to thinking.  Many people still look outside themselves for their supply.  But that is looking in the wrong direction, as explained in a previous lesson.  All true prosperity begins with focusing your attention within, on the One Source of all your good.  Understand that God is not a human-like Being in the sky someplace, and separate from you.  God is spirit, infinite love, wisdom, substance, energy permeating everything including your mind and body.  As such, God is the source your supply always where you are.

Catherine Ponder wrote in The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity, “The wonderful thing about recognizing God as the Source of all riches, and taking Him into your financial affairs and into every department of your life, is that the more you do so, the more stabilizing every phase of your life becomes.  In due time, there are no stringent financial emergencies to be dramatically met with instant manna from heaven.  Instead, things just get better and better financially so there is always substance on hand to meet your needs.”

She tells of a saleswoman who had a lot of financial expenses, but her sales had declined.  Fortunately, she decided to look to God as the Source of her supply.  She affirmed over and over these words from the Lord’s Prayer.  “Give me this day my daily bread.”  (Bread in the Bible, means Substance – Energy.)  An avalanche of financial abundance poured in upon her.  Her sales picked up in an amazing way, her commission checks came in with greater regularity, and they got bigger and bigger!  Neighbors gave her food, and she was given several items of fine clothing by a friend.  Some of her customers gave her gifts of appreciation, plus she received a number of dinner invitations.  Every day, her needs were supplied more abundantly than she could have imagined!

It is important for you to realize and accept this important Truth:  God is the Source of your supply.  Go to the Source, every day, in prayer and meditation, and invite this great indwelling prospering Presence to fill your mind, heart, and soul with its riches.  By doing this, you become the channel or instrument through which all kinds of prosperity blessings flow in your life.

If you are in business for yourself, or work for a company, remember that these are not the Source.  God is the one and only Source.  God is always within and around you, therefore, your rich, abundant good is always where you are.  This brings real stability to your finances.

A very important action for creating stability in your finances is regular and consistent tithing.  This is giving 10% of your whole income to God through where you are learning the spiritual laws and principles of prosperity. i.e. church, minister, spiritual counselor/teacher or spiritual organization.  *Tithing is covered more in a future lesson.

Prosperity Affirmation:  God is my Source.  His rich supply constantly flows freely and abundantly through me into my life.  I am relaxed.  God is prospering me now.

Action:  Whenever you begin to feel an apparent “lack attack” coming on, take three deep breaths and declare the above affirmation three times.

*Tithing is thoroughly explained in my books, How to Have ‘Unexpected’ Income and The Secret of Multiplied Money. Click for our bookstore.
